It is learned that in Mon State there are movements urging to hoist Sãsana flags in every Buddhist house and celebrate 52nd anniversary of the State Religion Day when Buddhism was recognized as the state religion in the whole state and some cities in Myanmar.

As one of these movements, in Paung Township, Mottama, Mon State, youths were being fueled under the activity of “Warming the Religious Blood” where anti Islamic songs were sung with modern music bands in Mya Zaydi Nan Oo Monastery starting from morning on 24th May. Totally, about 5 000 of 969 members from Mawlamyine, Paung, Thaton, Bilin, Kyaikhto, Zingyaik and nearby townships gathered in Mya Zaydi Nan Oo Monastery to hold this event.

In this ceremony, anti-Islamic sermon CDs and leaflets were distributed and then, the abbot instructed the participants to welcome Buddhists’ State Religion Day and hoist Sãsana flags at every Buddhist’s house.

Remark: In Myanmar, the State constitutionally recognizes the special position of Buddhism as the faith professed by the great majority of the citizens but not as the state religion.
