Unconstitutional signature campaign against rebuilding mosque starts in central Myanmar

November 3, 2018

Buddhist residents in Moe Nyo township, Bago Region, central Myanmar have started signature campaign to protest proposed planed rebuilding township mosque, a move goes against the freedom of worship that has granted in Myanmar’s 2008 constitution.

The campaign, started yesterday, came after the news of local Muslims getting permit from officials to rebuild a mosque destroyed by Buddhist mob in 2013 anti-Muslim attack.

Since 2010, there were at least three anti-Muslims attacks in Moe Nyo township prompted by made-up stories of Muslims insulting Buddhist Monks.
